This course explores changing approaches to mental health in the US from 18th-century spiritual interpretations of madness and witchcraft to the rise of psychiatry and psychology, and to recent therapeutic and wellness trends. Students will learn to use historical context to better understand current New York State mental health policy and their own lives.
