CEMS 423: Mass Transport in Glasses and Melts

Department
School
Inamori School of Engineering
Credits 3

A thorough discussion of diffusion processes including gases in glasses and fining; water and glass interaction from weathering to bio glasses; ionic diffusion, ion exchange and ionic conductivity; Crystallization and glass ceramics; amorphous-amorphous phase separation; radiation induced defects; and responses of glasses against mechanical impact. The effects of both atomistic structure and morphology will be discussed for each of these topics.
